GUAM - In a move that is almost certain to kill the Interim JFK lease, Senator Ben Pangelinan amended Bill No. 1 (Bill No. 1 [4-S]) to prevent Core Tech from proceeding with the lease until the Guam Public School System signs a contract with a separate company to rebuild the John F. Kennedy High School campus with federal stimulus funds.

Pangelinan’s amendment would effectively kill the lease agreement because it would extend the effective date to begin beyond Core Tech’s ability to get the interim JFK campus ready for the new school year.

Yet, the Senator’s amendment comes as no surprise since he has used his authority as Chairman of Appropriations to delay the progress of Bill No. 1, which has been with his committee since January 2009. Now, in the final hours before the interim campus plan is no longer viable, Pangelinan’s amendment all but sabotages any opportunity for JFK’s students to have a campus of their own.

It is unfortunate that this elected official would advocate a position that only hurts the students at JFK, and possibly those at George Washington High School as well, if GPSS and the Guam Education Policy Board choose to continue double sessions at GW.

My Opinion  - JFK Interim School Proposal   |2009-06-18 11:28:09
This nothing but a scam...$60 million for a facility the taxpayers will never
own...when is rational thinking going to prevail... use the money to build a new
school...politicians and GPSS are going to have to suck it up for allowing
double sessions for another year... forget the politics...do the right thing...
