By Jeff Marchesseault GUAM - This holiday weekend an Ames, Iowa ex-Marine recalls how he and his co-pilot safely landed a sputtering transport plane in waters just off Guam and managed to save everyone before the plane quickly sank, nose first, into the sea on July 4, 1945. The Ames Tribune reports that the emergency landing 64 years ago is comparable to pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger's safe landing of a dead-engine U.S. Airways jetliner on the Hudson River with all 150 passengers surviving on board in January of this year. Read the Ames Tribune story, "Flying fireworks", July 3, 2009. Read the Los Angeles Times story, "Captain Sullenberger details drama of emergency Hudson River landing, June 10, 2009.
