Thai Airways: Uptick In RP Passenger Traffic By Jeff Marchesseault GUAM - Apparently Guam isn't the only destination experiencing a lift in arrivals from the Philippines -- even at a time when air travel throughout the world is drastically down due to the H1N1 pandemic, fluctuating world oil prices, and global economic sluggishness. Nivat Chantarachoti, Thai Airways General Manager for the Philippines and Guam, tells the Business Mirror that although Philippine passenger traffic has yet to return to normal levels of activity, there has been an inspiring uptick in arrivals from the Philippines. Philippine Ambassador to Thailand Antonio V. Rodriguez told the mirror that further growth in this market is expected, especially in light of the fact that Thailand needs more English teachers. The Mirror didn't specify all points of arrival for the growing Philippine passenger traffic via Thai Airways. On August 10, however, Guam News Factor reported that inbound traffic to Guam from the Philippines had been skyrocketing. Attributing gradual growth in Guam's Philippine arrivals to summer vacationing, cheaper fares and Guam promotions, eTurbo news reported on August 9, that year-over-year April figures alone had surged by 50 percent.
