Obama Asks Americans To Write Their Congresspersons To Support The New Plan By Jeff Marchesseault GUAM - Attentive and on the ready to respond after watching the broadcast with wide eyes and open ears, Guam Senator Frank Aguon Jr., has come out early in full support of U.S. President Barack Obama's healthcare reform proposal. Aguon, who is a Democratic contender for the lieutenant governor's office on Guam, agrees that the Obama plan is good for fellow islanders, no matter what their socio-economic status. During his speech before both houses of Congress today, where he enjoyed the applause of determined Democrats, Obama forcefully defended his massive healthcare reform package, despite heckling, plus scant support from disapproving Republicans. At one point, however, Republican Senator John McCain, whom Obama defeated for the office of President in the general election last November, stood up and expressed his approval for Obama's inclusion of McCain's recommendations in the plan. Republicans also approved of Obama's announcement that his plan would not include a single penny of deficit spending. Laughter swept the cavernous chamber as Obama contrasted that promise with the costly, 'unpaid for' Iraq war. The President told lawmakers that his healthcare plan has in-built accountability clauses designed to recoup any aspects that prove un-fundable. Below is a media release explaining Guam Senator Frank Aguon, Jr.'s support for Obama's healthcare reform plan, followed by Obama's letter asking fellow Americans to support the proposal by writing their Congressional representatives: Guam Senator Frank Aguon, Jr: President Obama's Health Reform Will Help People Of Guam Senator Frank B. Aguon, Jr., Chairman of the Committee on Economic Development, Health & Human Services and Judiciary applauded/commended President Obama's health care reform expressing his support to the Chief Executive's plan. "It is a magnificent act. It is a powerful message. The time is ripe to gather all ranks and conscientious people to unite and work for the vast majority of our people. I totally agree that we need to move forward in making the program more efficient and deliver a health care system that reduce costs for everybody," Senator Aguon said. The Senator from Yona listened and watched attentively during the entire broadcast of President Obama's address to a joint session of Congress on health care, and he is impressed [with] how the President sent a no-nonsense message, discouraged divisiveness and set aside political wills just to put an end to the health care crisis. "It is not a popular vote and we are aware that even on Guam we are experiencing the same kind of problem. We are not after the businesses of the insurance companies but this health reform will have a check and balance for the benefit of the majority. It's about time we give our constituents the same opportunity," Senator Aguon added. He lauded the three basic goals of the plan of the health reform: (1) security and stability for those who have health insurance, (2) affordable choices for the millions who currently don't have insurance and (3) the provision of tax credits for small businesses who cannot afford lower-priced insurance. According to Senator Aguon, Obama's healthcare reform proposal will help ease the burdens of the medically indigent and, once the reform is put in place on Guam , the resources that we've been using to help Guam residents who don't have medical insurance can be directed to other government health and wellness programs. At the same time, the lawmaker added that the new health law will allow Guam Memorial Hospital to eventually earn some income after years of taking care of people without medical insurance. "It is a very positive development and [a] well-welcomed plan," Senator Aguon remarked. Here is the letter that President Obama emailed to fellow Americans on his email list, following today's healthcare reform speech: Click here to read or watch Obama's speech at Huffington Post. I just finished laying out my plan for health reform at a joint session of Congress. Now, I'm writing directly to you because what happens next is critical -- and I need your help. Change this big will not happen because I ask for it. It can only come when the nation demands it. Congress knows where I stand. Now they need to hear from you. Add your voice: Ask your representatives to support my plan for real health reform in 2009. The heart of my plan is simple: bring stability and security to Americans who already have health insurance, guarantee affordable coverage for those who don't, and rein in the cost of health care. Tonight, I offered a specific plan for how to make it happen. I incorporated the best ideas from Democrats and Republicans to create a plan that's bold, practical, and represents the broad consensus of the American people. We've come closer to real health reform in the last few months than we have in the last 60 years. But those who profit from the status quo -- and those who put partisan advantage above all else -- will fight us every inch of the way. We do not seek that fight, but we will not shrink from it. The stakes are too high to let scare tactics cloud the debate, or to allow partisan bickering to block the path. Your voice, right now, is essential. See my full plan and call on your representatives to support it: http://my.barackobama.com/SupportReform Ours is not the first generation to understand the dire need for health reform. And I am not the first president to take up this cause, but I am determined to be the last. Thank you, President Barack Obama
