![]() GUAM - A special weather statement was issued at 7:32 a.m. this morning by the National Weather Service announcing a tropical disturbance is developing East-Southeast of the Mariana Islands. The disturbance was centered about 500 miles East of Guam and continues to be better organized. According to the National Weather Service, the system may intensify into a tropical depression within the next 12 to 24 hours. Maximum winds near the center, based on satellite data are estimated to be 20 to 25 miles per hour. NWS also added, this disturbance is expected to move West-Northwest over the next few days toward the Mariana Islands, with the latest model guidance brining the center near Guam on Tuesday. NWS warns, "Since October is one of the peak months for tropical cyclones in Micronesia, residents of the Marianas Islands should closely monitor this disturbance. Weak disturbances can quickly intensify this time of year in this part of the Western Pacific and watches and warnings may have to be issued on short notice." NWS will update this information as needed based on forecast information from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center.
