A&E Contract To Support NextGen Technologies

By Jeff Marchesseault

GUAM -  Jacobs Engineering Group has landed a $99 million contract with the Federal Aviation Administration to upgrade the nation's critical air traffic control infrastructure in line with Next Generation (NextGen) technologies. The work includes Combined EnRoute Radar Approach Control Facilities on Guam.

Jacobs' work on island appears to be in line with Guam's 2030 Guam Transportation Master Plan and pressing infrastructure development goals.

On November 17, Guam News Factor reported that Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo had just met with Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood in Washington, D.C. Their discussion focused (1) on ways to develop increased capacity at ports of entry in time for the 2010-2014 military buildup, and (2) the need for Next-Generation technology for A.B. Won Pat Guam International Airport.

Governor Camacho had met with LaHood in Washington several days prior to Bordallo's meeting, stating similar concerns. Guam News Factor was glad to report then that LaHood expressed a thorough familiarity with Guam's infrastructural needs.
