Apple users are being targeted with a new type of attack called MFA bombing on their iPhones. Attackers are exploiting a vulnerability through the user’s phone number, leading to a surge in phishing attacks. Apple is aware of the issue and is taking action to address the problem.
To protect against these iPhone password reset attacks, users are advised to decline all reset password requests, not answer phone calls from “Apple Support” or similar, and temporarily change the phone number associated with their Apple ID if the prompts continue. There have been reports of a rate limit problem with the Apple ID password reset system, leading to users falling victim to this scam for at least two years.
Despite the addition of a Recovery Key feature, it does not seem to prevent the reset password prompts, as noted by security expert Krebs on Security. It is important for Apple users to be vigilant and take necessary precautions to safeguard their devices and personal information.
