Title: Tyler Buchner Set to Replace Jalen Milroe as Alabama Starting Quarterback for Week 3 Game
In a surprising move by Coach Nick Saban, the Alabama Crimson Tide will see a change at the quarterback position for their Week 3 game against South Florida. Tyler Buchner is expected to take over from Jalen Milroe following Alabama’s recent loss to Texas in Week 2.
Coach Saban had refrained from giving Milroe a vote of confidence after the disappointing loss, suggesting that a change in the starting lineup was on the horizon. This comes as no surprise, considering Saban’s emphasis on evaluating every position on the team weekly. According to the coach, players need to consistently perform well if they aim to maintain their positions.
Milroe’s performance in the first two games of the season raised concerns regarding his accuracy and decision-making. While he managed to pass for 255 yards and two touchdowns, his completion rate stood at a mere 51.9%. Additionally, he threw two interceptions, further highlighting the need for a change.
Tyler Buchner’s journey to the starting quarterback position has been an intriguing one. After spending two years at Notre Dame, he entered the transfer portal and committed to Alabama in April. Although he initially lost out to Milroe during fall camp, Buchner showcased his skills during Alabama’s season opener. He completed three of his five pass attempts for 27 yards, impressively rushing for a touchdown as well.
Buchner’s familiarity with the Alabama offense stems from his time playing under offensive coordinator Tommy Rees at Notre Dame. Interestingly enough, Rees was Buchner’s primary recruiter. It is worth noting that Buchner had ultimately chosen Notre Dame over Alabama, but circumstances led him to transferring to continue his collegiate career with the Crimson Tide.
During his season at Notre Dame, Buchner displayed promising potential before a shoulder injury cut his year short. He completed 55.4% of his passes for 651 yards and three touchdowns, with five interceptions. Additionally, he showcased his versatility by rushing for 123 yards and four touchdowns.
As the Alabama Crimson Tide prepares to take on South Florida in Week 3, all eyes will be on Tyler Buchner as he assumes the starting quarterback role. It remains to be seen whether Buchner can provide the spark needed to guide Alabama to victory and solidify his place as the team’s future leader under center.
