The Alabama Crimson Tide pulled off a stunning upset against the No. 1 seeded North Carolina Tar Heels in the Sweet 16 game, led by standout player Grant Nelson. This victory marked Alabama’s first time advancing to the Elite Eight since 2004.
The game was a high-scoring affair in the first half, with both teams shooting over 50% from the field and scoring over 50 points each. North Carolina was able to take the lead at the end of the first half, thanks in part to Cormac Ryan’s hot shooting.
However, North Carolina struggled in the second half, allowing Alabama to make a comeback and ultimately take the lead. Grant Nelson was instrumental in the victory, scoring 12 of Alabama’s last 14 points to secure the win.
Alabama will now face off against Clemson in the Elite Eight, after Clemson pulled off an upset against No. 2 Arizona. Nelson expressed confidence in his performance and gave credit to his teammates for supporting him throughout the tournament.
Despite the loss, North Carolina’s Armando Bacot led his team with an impressive 19 points and 12 rebounds. Nelson and the rest of the Alabama team now look ahead to continuing their success in the Elite Eight and aiming for even greater achievements in the tournament.
