The Georgia Court of Appeals to Review Decision on Fulton County DA in Trump Case
The Georgia Court of Appeals has agreed to review a lower court ruling that allowed Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to continue prosecuting the election interference case against former President Donald Trump. This decision could potentially delay the case and push any future trials beyond the November election, where Trump is expected to be the Republican nominee for president.
The defense had attempted to have Willis removed from the case, citing her romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade as a conflict of interest. However, a Superior Court Judge found no conflict of interest and allowed Willis to remain on the case.
Trump’s lead attorney, Steve Sadow, expressed their anticipation of presenting arguments to the appeals court to dismiss the case and disqualify Willis. The Georgia Court of Appeals will hear the case and potentially rule on whether Willis should be removed.
Allegations regarding Willis and Wade’s relationship first surfaced in January, causing a tumultuous period in the case as details of their personal lives were revealed in court. Trump and 18 others were indicted in August, accused of illegally attempting to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia. Some defendants have already pleaded guilty, while Trump and others have entered not guilty pleas.
The defense argued in their appeal application that both Willis and Wade should be removed from the case, as they believed Willis also benefited from their relationship. Stay tuned for updates on the latest developments in this high-profile case on Guam News Factor.
