Tragedy Strikes Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge: Two Bodies Recovered from Patapsco River
In a devastating turn of events, two bodies have been recovered from the Patapsco River following the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore. The victims have been identified as Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes, 35, and Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera, 26.
The collapse occurred while eight male construction workers were repairing potholes on the bridge, leaving them unaccounted for. The rescue effort quickly turned into a recovery operation as hopes of finding the men alive faded. Coast Guard Rear Admiral Shannon Gilreath cited the frigid water and the time that had passed since the accident as reasons for the grim outlook.
The closure of the bridge and port as a result of the incident has the potential to cause disruptions to trade and impact the livelihoods of the 8,000 area residents employed by the port. The community is left reeling from this tragic event and mourning the loss of two lives.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the bridge collapse and are working to ensure the safety of other structures in the area. Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of the victims as they navigate this difficult time. Stay tuned to Guam News Factor for updates on this developing story.
