In a historic moment for humanity, the crew of SYFY’s The Ark has embarked on the longest journey ever taken to Proxima Centauri. Meanwhile, back on Earth, Voyager 1, the farthest human-made object in space, had a major communication issue in November 2023, starting to send gibberish instead of readable data.
However, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory engineers have recently made a breakthrough in getting Voyager 1 talking again. It turns out that the spacecraft’s flight data system had a broken chip, causing the transmission problem. Due to Voyager’s immense distance from Earth, engineers had to devise a remote fix, which was made even more challenging by the light-speed delay in communication with the spacecraft.
The engineers successfully repaired the systems related to engineering data and are now working on restoring the science data transmission. It is expected that Voyager 1 will soon resume sending observations from interstellar space.
Fans of space exploration can follow more thrilling adventures on Season 2 of The Ark on Peacock. Stay tuned for further updates on these groundbreaking missions.
