In a show of solidarity with Ukraine, the United States and the United Kingdom have stepped up their military aid to the country in the face of Russia’s ongoing aggression.
Ukraine, which has been locked in a battle with Russia since 2014, recently received a substantial aid package from the U.S. President Biden has stressed the importance of supporting Ukraine in its defense against Russia, highlighting the territorial gains and naval victories the country has achieved.
Not to be outdone, the U.K. has pledged its largest-ever military aid package to Ukraine, with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announcing a whopping ยฃ500 million ($620 million) for defense purposes. This is in addition to the ยฃ2.5 billion ($3.1 billion) already allocated this financial year.
The aid package will include funds for producing drones in the U.K. and scaling up domestic defense supply chains. The British Ministry of Defense described it as the largest-ever single package of equipment from the U.K.
Additionally, the U.K. will be providing vehicles, missiles, ammunition, boats, and will deploy a Royal Air Force squadron to patrol over Poland’s skies for NATO. This move underscores the U.K.’s commitment to defending Ukraine against Russian aggression.
In a further boost to Ukraine, the U.S. Senate has advanced a $95 billion foreign aid package that includes military support for the country. This aid is seen as crucial in providing Ukraine with the resources it needs to continue its fight against Russia.
Overall, the increased aid from both the U.S. and the U.K. is a clear signal of the international community’s support for Ukraine in its struggle for sovereignty and defense against external threats.
